Mark Lawrence Much, possibly most, of epic fantasy raises the stakes to include the end of all the characters know and value. It's an interesting way of apply pressure to characters &/or situations.

I was wondering if Nona from Red Sister was inspired by Vaelin Al Sorna? She seems like the female version. Not that I am complaining. I loved Blood Song and loved Red Sister equally. So far this year Red Sister is hands down my favorite book.
