Christian Clason:
If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

If I could go to any fictional book world, I would travel from one book to the other. Never stop. Collect odds and ends, with technologies unthinkable and magic that is unspeakable. In some worlds I would be like a shadow that went missed. In others, I would use what I had gathered and learned to defeat the evils of that realm. Maybe try to change the story by action rather than written words. Maybe I would backtrack through worlds that I could not help when they needed it. Then in the end, retire to this world, a world in which I am familiar, but now I have the most epic pieces to share with the world.
Cures for diseases, technologies to increase the populace's capacity for industry, and magic...magic I would probably keep to myself. As selfish as it may seem, it seems like the kind of thing that could easily become misused. Unlike technology, which requires some form of logic in that world to function, magic might well have no rules in the physical world at all. You can figure out how to shut down a machine or counter a gun, but you might not be able to shut off a wizard's powers. I would probably keep that as a supporting power. Maybe beef up any cures I brought that could not quite fully "cure" some things. Or maybe use it to do things like teleportation. Man, if I could jump to another part of the world carrying a bag of potatoes and jugs of water, I would do more than that for people who needed it.
Then again, magic might become a thing that is unnecessary. By that point, if I am selling some technology, I might be making millions or billions. In my personal view, it would then become my goal to not only see the world but to give back what I have gotten from it. Reap what you sow they say. Well, I would sow whatever I could in places that needed it most.
But, miracles are not common place enough in the real world. Maybe I would keep magic around as a small thing to make miracles happen for others.
Rewrite the story of my own world, I think.
