What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Leah Weiss Get "ego" out of the way, right from the start. Realize you are a student, a beginner who has much to learn from a vast array of teachers. Those books you admire and love? Read them over and over again and decipher how the magic happened. Break them down into pieces and narrative shapes you can understand. Haunt the library and pick up best sellers and read the opening paragraphs. How do they grab your attention? As writers, we don't have to reinvent the wheel. We can steal all the great ideas there are, but we have to make them our own. (Oh, and don't forget to write, write, write...)
