I am currently reading volume 1 of Manchester's "The Last Lion", and was struck by similarities in character between Miles and Winston Churchill. I thought wistfully about a story in which Miles guides the imperium through an existential crisis, perhaps as prime minister. Have you perhaps had a similar thought?

I have no such plans for Miles, but young Churchill was one of several threads of inspiration that went into creating him, so your instincts are correct. (Not one of the major threads, but there in the snarl somewhere.)

A lot of quotes from your books come to my mind fairly often (I didn't vote for him), but the one I find most profound is at the end of Brothers. Miles - "Straight-Up good guys and bad guys". Elli - "Great, which are we?". Was this just a fun line or did you see it as much deeper like I do? I watch a lot of violent fiction (bad CIA etc) and find it very discouraging for there to be so many real conflicts now
