There's this one poem I need help understanding, I read it over and over but I just don't get it (p. 188) : "BOYS LEARN TOO LATE THAT BEING "THE MAN," IS NOT THE SAME THING AS BEING A MAN." What do you think it means?
samantha christian I believe it means that boys after being told by society what "The Man" is suppose to be, which is the dominant, the one who controls, the breadwinner…moreI believe it means that boys after being told by society what "The Man" is suppose to be, which is the dominant, the one who controls, the breadwinner, the protector, the drinker, the one who doesn't need to clean, iron or cook etc, will eventually realise that it is all superficial, and that they have choices which sets them apart from being "a man" rather than "the man." And by the time He figures this out he would have missed out on so many opportunities.(less)
