There's this one poem I need help understanding, I read it over and over but I just don't get it (p. 188) : "BOYS LEARN TOO LATE THAT BEING "THE MAN," IS NOT THE SAME THING AS BEING A MAN." What do you think it means?

I took it as, boys are being told what a 'real man' should look like and act like. They're being told that they have to have certain things, look certain ways to accomplish the act of becoming a 'real man.' Then later on, when they find that that's not who they really are and that who they are is so different to what society tells them to be, then they realise too late that a 'real man' isnt about actions, perceptions and looks, it's about how grow with your 'true self'.
