Goodreads asked Gerald Thomson:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Gerald Thomson Because I write shorter pieces it is easier for me than most writers. I can simply set aside the piece I am working on and work on something else. Also, because the investment is much less in a 6-page piece than in a 300-page novel, I can also see if that writer's block is because of me not identifying how to move forward or if the block is because the idea is flawed to begin with. If I need to throw out an essay it will not be the end of my book.

The other thing I do is I don't put pressure on myself. I write because I enjoy the process. If the process is not flowing then I'll wait until the ideas come.
