I was inspired by a desire to tell a different story, to cover a larger span of time, and to tell the full story of a woman's life.
When I read that Ava Gardner's lost memoirs were coming out, that gave me the idea of writing about a Hollywood star with a lot of secrets to keep.
And I found that I was enthralled by the process of writing about fame and different time periods and strong women.
