Margaret asked Karen White:

Hi Karen. I inherited Haviland china from my grandmother. That's why I picked your book for my book club. I surprised everyone by serving our treats on my delicate pink floral china. Do you have Haviland china or another special keepsake from your family?

Karen White I love to hear this! My mother picked out her china when she was 13, and when we lived in London, my mother took me to Harrods at the same age to pick my own (Royal Dolton's Carlysle). My first job out of college was as the manager of a high-end crystal/china/silver department store where I learned so much and became a bit addicted to china and could identify patterns from 100 yards away. :-) My oldest brother now has my mother's china, but I have her sterling pattern (60+ place settings) that she also picked out way before she was married and was part of her "trousseau."

My favorite heirloom, though, is the last remaining plate in my great-great-grandmother's china which holds a place of honor in my china cabinet.
