Lois McMaster Bujold:
When coming up with the concept of the "black gang" for Mark, did you do any psychology research first, was there some personal experience at play, or is it strictly what you've absorbed from the media? Either way it's pretty convincing. Reading his internal monologues and external explanations has helped me have compassion for a loved one recently diagnosed with trauma-based dissociative identity, so thank you!

I'm pleased you found Mark convincing. You apparently aren't the only one; the story was once referenced in an article in an actual academic tome -- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
As far as sources go, All Of The Above pretty much covers it.
However inadvertently, I'm also glad the story helped you deal with your own challenges.

In his introduction to the first collection of his work (1950), Will F. Jenkins (Murray Leinster) describes the musings and speculations which led to each story. As regards one he says "[It] comes out on paper and I have more fun writing it than anybody will ever have reading it." May I hope that you feel similarly? Your work has given so much enjoyment to so many, including me, it would only seem just!

This might seem like a silly question, but I wonder if you could describe how you picture loose-fitting Komarran trousers? As I've reread the series, they vacillate in my mind between modern day wide-legged trousers, to ones fitted at the ankle like harem pants, to much more voluminous bottoms like hakama or riding skirts. How do you imagine them?
