I've always felt that if I care about the story, it's going well. And if I stop caring, I've made a mistake somewhere.
As much as it can be difficult to have perspective on your own work, I do think that what your heart is engaged by shows on the page. So if you are invested, there is a high chance your readers will be, too.

Your books have such an incredible way of making the readers feel like they have lived the lives of your characters and are a part of the story. When I reach the last page I always want to immediately re-start reading so the story doesn't end. What is the one character you've written that you've had the hardest time saying goodbye to? And, would you consider writing a sequel to any of your books?
