Missy Shiraz asked Sylvain Reynard:

Hi SR. If Dante were still alive and witnessed Gabriel's life, do you think Dante will see himself in Gabriel? If so, will he respect il professore and be a self-absorbed man or will he be appalled and be a hypocrite? Also, if you can hint on something to reveal a bit about yourself, what would it be? You can't say you're Canadian! You also can't argue that this would rather defeat the purpose of pen name. Thanks! :)

Sylvain Reynard Hello Missy,
Thanks for your questions.
Dante was a complex figure, just like the Professor. Dante could be arrogant and proud and he ran afoul of some of the political figures in Florence, which is why he had to leave his beloved city. So I think Dante would see some of himself in Gabriel, which was intentional on my part as a writer.
It's important to note, however, that the way Beatrice saw Dante was different from the way many others viewed him. Perhaps affection changes our perspective.
For myself, I can tell you that I'm very interested in Italian history and culture and I like to travel.
All the best and thanks for reading, SR.
