Kelly It's YA in the sense that the main characters are 16-18 year olds, but the books actually deal with some mature topics like poverty, government corrup…moreIt's YA in the sense that the main characters are 16-18 year olds, but the books actually deal with some mature topics like poverty, government corruption, sexual abuse, slavery, drug addiction, racism/prejudice, etc. People often comment that the main characters feel older, and that's because they live in a dark, gritty world that forces kids and teenagers to grow up fast, so I think in many ways adults might actually get more out of the books than teenage readers.(less)
