Yes, Violet has a very complicated relationship with her mother.
Violet and her mother did butt heads before Violet's father died, but he often stepped in before the argument became heated.
Her father didn't specifically try to help their relationship as much as he would try to tell Violet to respect her mother and her mother's opinion. He never tried negotiating between. He only tried to keep the peace.
Violet's father wanted her to be a force of nature, like him, but he didn't like upsetting his wife so he tried to pacify both of them.
