The story is inspired by my husband's experience as naive teen sent out of Cuba on the eve of the Bay of Pigs Invasion to retrieve smuggled family jewels. It is a fictionalized account of his coming of age in New York at the height of the sexual revolution and his journey to personal freedom and success despite the refusal of his oppressive parents to assimilate to the American way of life.
