"Fire, fire", my aunt's neighbor screamed out the window. There was no fire. Fifteen minutes later, the store in the next building, that which the neighbor owned caught fire. Had the neighbor forgotten her husband always set his clock fifteen minutes behind?

I stood in the doorway and watched them embrace in the sunlight; their shiny eyes and glistening lips sending beams of love in my direction. Suddenly, a dark cloud formed; a fierce wind and the crackle of lightning surrounded them and in an instant disappeared, leaving only one of them standing, helpless and hopeless. Why?

I don't believe in writer's block. If I am unable to write, I walk away from the computer and do other tasks. It could be anything from laundry to cooking - I might call a friend or watch a movie. I do not become frustrated nor fear that I will not be able to write. I realize my brain needs to work at its own pace and when I am ready to write, I will. It could take awhile, but I've learned to respect my process. I do not feel pressured to write every day or at the same time. I write at will.

I am converting a screenplay to a novel titled Soaring In Silence. It is about a young wife who moves from NY to AZ for health reasons and faces the relentless sexual advances of a dangerous retiree with a hidden criminal past. In a battle for survival, by her own resourcefulness and the wonders of the Internet, she derails an impending attack and positions the bully to meet his destiny, while she triumphs in secret.

The story is inspired by my husband's experience as naive teen sent out of Cuba on the eve of the Bay of Pigs Invasion to retrieve smuggled family jewels. It is a fictionalized account of his coming of age in New York at the height of the sexual revolution and his journey to personal freedom and success despite the refusal of his oppressive parents to assimilate to the American way of life.
