Did anyone else find the ending disappointing? What happened? How in the world are they going to get out of the country with that baby? How will they evade investigation? Unanswered in the book. Are we supposed to furnish our own ending? Unsatisfied!!!

You must suspend all disbelief to think that the traumatized protagonist in the first two thirds, for whom riding the escalator is a major achievement, can instantly morph into a gun-toting, punch-throwing badass. "See? Cured you of that problem!" Yeah, not buying it.

A friend sent me "The Given Day" for Christmas last year -- I will return to that since it seems more coherent and well-thought-out (and based in reality) than this pay-the-mortgage, pay-the-kids'-tuition kind of book. (less)
