Sorry, but I found it impossible to believe that a jury could return a guilty verdict of 1st degree murder without a shred of evidence. Yes, the husband is always the suspect in such cases, and yes, money could possibly have been a motive, but the man was hundreds of miles away and the only state's witness testified that she was wrong, the person she saw wasn't the husband. Beyond a reasonable doubt? Come on!

Does it make complete sense to everyone? No, but to that jury it did. It happens all the time. The book also shows Boady at the end explain to Lila what had happened and Ben's plan. He explained that getting convicted wasn't in his plan but thats how the jury went. (less)
