Lea Carter:
My son served 16 years in the Army of the United States. Uncle Sam retired him medically after he did 3 tours in Iraq. Do you get your ideas for the military, history, different countries? Do you have a favorite country that you use in your story telling? How did you get started? How hard was it for you to get published?

I'm very grateful for your son's service, and hope he has safely transitioned to being home.
I do quite a bit of research as I write, yes. Perhaps a surprising amount, given that I write fantasy. I don't have a favorite country, but I have reached back in time for names (ex. Arnold Mosley, named for Benedict Arnold and a British fascist in WWII) and for information about weapons, navigation, archaic "technology," etc.
Silver Princess is the first story I ever finished writing and it began as an attempt to record something that actually happened to me as a teenager, when I came off a horse and was knocked unconscious. I'm still surprised when I think of how adding a set of wings to the story got all of this started! As for being published, I'm not traditionally published, not by, for example, Random House or Bantam Books, etc. I did some research and decided to try independent publishing, via Amazon, then branched out to print. Thank you and yes you did answer my question. I have a character (girl/woman) wanting to know how and where her adoption came about. Right now I have it (notes) in a "book report" set up such as what my literature teachers had me to use in high school. I was wondering if this is a good way to start my storytelling?
