Cameron Smith asked Mark Lawrence:

G'day Mark, I've noticed you write quite a few reviews that are really good. Do you have any advice or posts about how to leave better reviews for the books we have read?

Mark Lawrence I don't!

I guess I could make a few up right now.

i) Move your review to a different book. If nobody who had read the book would be able to tell something was up ... then it's not a good review. I.e reference the content.

ii) What stops a bunch of 5* reviews all being the same? The personal touch. Like good prose description which illuminates both the observer and and the observed, a review says a lot about the reviewer as well as about the book. Make it personal.

iii) Try to think past the plot. What was the book really about? Did it have themes, was it trying to say anything?
