I love the emotion that you build into your characters, when you start writing a book, how do you start to craft the characters?

Thanks so much! My characters take a long time to really come to life. I find that as I write them, they develop and change. It's not until I'm writing dialogue and I hear them speak and I think about how they would act or react that I fully get to know them. I wish I could see them more clearly from the very beginning, but they always take on more shades and dimensions as we get to know each other! I like to write about people that we can all relate to; they just find themselves in extraordinary situations that are fun, sometimes scary, and always intriguing!

Hi Barbara - how long does it usually take from getting an idea to you actually writing a book, is each book different or do you find that the ideas for books come easily to you. I make cards (totally different I know) but sometimes lose inspiration, does this ever happen to you with your writing?

Barbara, when I read your books, I feel that I'm right there beside the characters and at that place and time. Do you visit all the places you write about and take notes or is this clearly from your imagination ? I can say that you are my ALL TIME FAVORITE writer. Cheers to the best!
