Just a comment? Wonderful book. If it doesn't touch the reader through art, it touches one by one's attachment to their home, if not through home, it touches through family roots/birthplace, if not thru roots, it touches through lost love, and if not through love & loss, thru the human spirit and its fight to survive and thrive, and if not thru the human spirit, it touches one with Kline's linguistic skill & talent.

Christina Baker Kline Hi Jill -- this is such a lovely comment. You made my day. (Apologies for not responding sooner; I just discovered this page.) A Piece of the World is the most difficult book I've ever written, for many reasons. It was hard to write about real people; I had to create drama and movement out of a somewhat static story (Christina barely leaves her house) and carve hope out of what some might consider a sad or even hopeless situation ... so it means a great deal to hear that it touched you. Thank you!
