Lisamarie asked Christina Baker Kline:

Is this book fiction? Did you know that the woman in the painting had Charcot Marie Tooth a neurological disease? I have it. It affects the feet and hands then the arms and legs. It is the most common inherited neurological disease in the world 1 in 2,500. It is still rare. SO many people go undiagnosed. There are quite a few people in the UK with it . There is a CMTUK facebook page I think.

Christina Baker Kline Hi Lisamarie - Please forgive me for not writing sooner; I didn't realize this page existed! Anyway -- yes, I did lots of research. If you read the acknowledgments, you'll see exactly where it led me. Recently I gave a presentation at the national CMT gala in NYC. I've learned a lot about the disease and understand how little-known (and yet surprisingly prevalent) it is. I hope I portrayed CMT accurately in the book; I worked hard to do so. Many thanks for reaching out.
