Goodreads asked L.A. Chandlar:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

L.A. Chandlar When I moved to NYC two weeks after 9/11 I got to see first hand how a vibrant city responds to tragedy. And I got to thinking about the 1930s and how we usually only hear about the Depression, the economy, the Dust Bowl, the tremendous difficulty... But there was also incredible art, inspiration, women's rights on the rise, and innovation smack in the middle of the Depression. In 2001, I witnessed first hand how New York responded to our immense tragedy: with compassion, sacrifice, art, innovation, humor, sheer grit...and cocktails. Sounded a lot like the 30s. That's the story I wanted to tell. So my main character, Lane Sanders, aide to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, embodies all that gumption.
