I am only on chapter one, but I am not sure I can finish this book. Yes- the young man is clearly a gifted child and is doing great things. But mom's perspective seems... off. She almost died when her child was born 3 weeks early (?? Why? ) yet they went home right after the birth and stopped to sign mortgage papers on their way? The descriptions so far seem so overly exaggerated and ridiculous. Munchhausens?

Nothing strange about it: she did have a difficult birth, but once it was over there was no reason for the doctors to keep her there, since both mother and son were healthy. As you read more about her background, you will understand that Jacob's mother is an energetic and hard-working person, so it comes as no surprise that she would stop on her way home to sign papers... She's used to managing on her own, having been raised to be autonomous from an early age. Not all couples are the same - some parents take it slower, some not- but as long as her husband is on the same boat, the timing to sign papers is their own decision and planning. Anyway, you really need to reach the later chapters, as your question is tackled. It's a REALLY worthy book! :)

Now that it has come to light about how she treated her adopted daughter Natalia who had a disability, I sense this woman has narcissistic personality disorder or some other borderline personality disorder. She threw a child with a disability under the bus so she could write this book. Lock her up and throw away the key.
