I think she has the war gift. She's good with weapons and riding horses (although I remember her telling Nicolas that she really had to train herself for that, not sure). She's also developing that temper (particularly that part when Mirabella challenged her to a duel), like what we saw with Jules.

Sweetheart was found dead and replaced by Natalia to not hurt Katherine. Also, the only way Katherine was able to survive all of the poison is because the past fallen queens wanted her to survive, and she grew accustomed to the poison.

I was wondering that too because in the first book it does suggest that Katherine has a close relationship with her snake. But if I remember correctly (I would need to reread this part in book 1) but didn't Sweetheart get lost during that botched feast and then Natalia had replaced her with another coral snake since they had found Sweetheart dead somewhere? So the snake that tried to bite her wasn't her Sweetheart. And after reading the second book, I am starting to think that both Arsinoe and Katherine are poisoners, but Arsinoe is the stronger one.

~CONTAINS SPOILERS for Book 1!!! (and may CONTAIN SPOILERS for book 2 but personally I don't think its really that spoilerish but read at you own choice)~
Wow that's a good question. I just finished book 2 yesterday and it was amazing. However, I did not come across anything that would suggest Katharine to be a naturalist. It seems like the logical explanation, with Arsinoe being the poisoner, but nothing was mentioned. Maybe I missed some small hints? Idk, but I know that it was never flat out revealed to us in book 2.
Sorry I wasn't much help :I

Not sure if it is the same snake, but a coral snake that was in a cage in her room tired to bite her back in book one. Because Pietyr protected her and took the bite for her. So I don't really think I consider the snake a familiar.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure only naturalists have familiars??
