what did inspire you to write house of night?

P.C. Cast I'd written and published several books when my agent asked me if I'd consider writing a series set at a vampyre finishing school. I loved the idea as a YA series because I was teaching high school. I made the society matriarchal and based much of the magick in the world on biology. Then I added lots of issues I'd observed from teaching for 15 years (I'm from a family of teachers). And the HoN was born!
