Why did you choose to set Eleanor and Park in the 1980s rather than writing a contemporary romance story? (I really liked the setting but I am just curious as to the reason!)

I'm sure it's because *I* came of age in the '80s. I think it's really common for artists/storytellers to go back to their own teen years and try to sort them out. There's something about those years that makes them really potent in your own memory.
