Goodreads asked J.D. Barker:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

J.D. Barker In 2009 I went to my high school reunion and learned a friend of mine had been murdered a few years earlier in Tampa, the case was cold. Brutally stabbed and left in a shallow grave, the police had little in the way of clues and a slew of suspects. Over the course of a week, I worked her case with a team of volunteers. Not only did we find her murderer, our investigation led to a federal indictment against the lead detective. Apparently he was filing tax returns and collecting $ on the victims he was supposed to be helping - he didn't want her case solved, he would no longer be able to collect. His wife laundered the money via prison debit cards.

Real life always trumps fiction. There is a book here for sure.
