How do you come up with the plot for your books?

Glynnis Campbell I usually start with a "what if" question, and that's inspired by events in the news, things I see on the street, or just in my own imagination. I figure out a good time and place for such a thing to happen, as well as characters who would be interesting in that "what if" scenario. I usually make a rough outline of what's going to happen, though oftentimes the plot takes some unexpected turns as I'm writing.
