Goodreads asked Gerald Gillis:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Gerald Gillis Don't give up. Don't give up. Don't give up!

You'll need a thick skin. You'll need to learn to accept criticism and rejection. You'll find that the writing world can be harsh and impersonal. You will compete with thousands of other authors for readers, and it's a tough competitive environment.

But if writing is what you really want to do, if being a writer is truly who you are, then don't give up. Keep writing and learning. Keep giving your best to your readers. And keep giving yourself the chance that you'll never have if you throw your hands up and walk away.
