A Goodreads user asked Jamie Ford:

As someone who's new to publishing, with limited funds, I had to publish my book Sandhya and Arambh, on Amazon kindle self publishing store. So how important is the role of marketing in today's age to reach your readers. As I have faith in my work and that is why I went ahead with the decision to publish it after years of deliberation. Also I would love to hear from you on your secret to write a good book?

Jamie Ford Hi Yashi.

The most viral component of any book campaign is the book itself. If it's not sharable, or discussion-worthy, then no amount of marketing can overcome that.

With self-publishing on the Kindle, you're somewhat restricted to the Kindle book-buying ecosystem. You'll have a hard time getting your book into actual, physical bookstores. Amazon's database can work miracles, but it can't overcome the hard feelings brick-and-mortar booksellers have toward an online retailer who wants to price them out of existence.

But, if you're fine not having physical books, Amazon can do some nice things for you.

As far as the secret to a good book, if I knew that, this business would be much, much easier ;)
