Scott Grossman asked this question about Fire Shut Up in My Bones:
The author says he's "deeply scarred" by abuse and a struggle with sexual identity. He comes to a conclusion that, "my futile attempts to 'fix it' had cost me my dreams." We know he was class president, captain of the basketball team, valedictorian, recipient of numerous scholarships, president of his fraternity, campus lothario and oh yes, he won a NY Times internship created for him. What lost dreams?
Tara He dreamed of becoming a politician, but not being able to come to terms with his childhood trauma and sexual identity (he felt) cost him that dream.
