Once you have an idea, start writing. Let yourself write for a bit before going back to edit anything. After writing 20 or so pages, or writing to what feels like a natural stopping point, go back and reread what you've got. See if you like it well enough to continue. If so, keep going. If not, can you tweak it so that you'll be satisfied to continue?
