My reading list always consists of a slew of cozy mysteries. I like to keep up on what's out there in my genre. I will also read at least one Donna Leon. I enjoy reading about Venice and the culture of Venice. At the request of a friend I have just purchased "Big Magic" and I'm looking forward to diving into that as well.

Almost 16 years ago I had the enormous opportunity of buying into a well- respected business with three other individuals. In the past 15+ years, there have been several people who have resented that and some have actively tried to sabotage the company. Once you have an idea, start writing. Let yourself write for a bit before going back to edit anything. After writing 20 or so pages, or writing to what feels like a natural stopping point, go back and reread what you've got. See if you like it well enough to continue. If so, keep going. If not, can you tweak it so that you'll be satisfied to continue?

My brain just starts sending me ideas that begin to suggest a plot. Unless I force myself to push them out of my head - I am compelled to begin writing. The initial ideas could be an overall plot or some key part of a plot. One thing leads to another and I have the start of a murder mystery.

A friend told me a story about cleaning out his only sister's apartment when she had to be institutionalized. He started cleaning out the drawer in the bedside table and came across a note that read "If I'm found dead, my brother did it." After hearing his story, I turned to him and said "I have to kill you." And now I have.
