Laura asked this question about A Memory of Light (The Wheel of Time, #14):
I know there's another question about what to read after WoT, but this is slightly different. I feel that emptiness after finishing the series. However, I don't think I can jump right into a different fantasy series. Can anyone recommend some well-written fiction with a similar style (I like both Jordan and Sanderson's level of detail - not too much, not too little) that isn't fantasy and isn't too dark?

Before I read WoT, I fell in love with Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicle. The first book is called "The Name of the Wind". I haven't read it in awhile and I can't compare it to either Jordan or Sanderson's writing perfectly, but from my recollection it's pretty close. Humorous, a little dark but not too dark. I'm also currently reading Terry Brooks "The Sword of Shannara" that also has similarities with Jordan's writing. It's a little more lighthearted but a good read. Lastly, I'd recommend anything by Naomi Novik! Her book "Uprooted" is excellent and her Temeraire series is humurous but also serious at the same time. Hope that helps!(less)
