I always tell people, being a writer is as close to being a god as one can get. Writers get to create worlds, people and events. They get to play out tales of heroism and cowardice and present it to the world. They know what the characters are thinking, not just what they're saying. They get to hand out rewards, punishments and happy endings at their whim.
