Angie At the end of my version of the book the author talks about her own maid (Demetrie) when she was a kid and I get the impression that she was a mix of …moreAt the end of my version of the book the author talks about her own maid (Demetrie) when she was a kid and I get the impression that she was a mix of different characters in the book : beaten by her drunk husband and a great cook with her chicken and caramel cake like Minnie, taking great care of her and her being her favourite like Constantine with Miss Skeeter, telling stories and telling her she was beautiful like Aibileen would do with Baby Girl.
The author clearly states that the story is pure fiction but I can imagine that she read or heard some stories about the subject while she was living in Mississippi...(less)
