Naomi with a B
I'm not actually sure but I think it was loosely based on a true story. Like the specific characters may not have existed, but a book that described the struggles of black servants in white households may have actually been published around those times, and it probably did spark a lot of mixed results). Don't quote me on this, but I think that the story was based off of a real book that was similar to the book that was written in this story.

At the end of my version of the book the author talks about her own maid (Demetrie) when she was a kid and I get the impression that she was a mix of different characters in the book : beaten by her drunk husband and a great cook with her chicken and caramel cake like Minnie, taking great care of her and her being her favourite like Constantine with Miss Skeeter, telling stories and telling her she was beautiful like Aibileen would do with Baby Girl.
The author clearly states that the story is pure fiction but I can imagine that she read or heard some stories about the subject while she was living in Mississippi...
