I wonder if Masie Hobbs is going to confront the horrors of WWII at all, the Nazis etc.? I feel for people who had to go through not only one but two world wars! I really enjoy your books and I like learning what it was like for people back then. My losses were in WWII as a child in England.

Dear Sandra, The new novel featuring Maisie Dobbs - IN THIS GRAVE HOUR - begins with the outbreak of WW2. The book is dedicated to my mother and five of her siblings, all of whom were evacuated from London on September 1st 1939, as "Operation Pied Piper" went into effect when it was clear that war was inevitable - and they were all, in their way, scarred by the experience.

I have always admired the way you shaped the character of Maisie Dobbs. I'm curious if you modeled her on someone real or a fictional character that inspired you? Thank you for the Maisie Dobbs series, they are all brilliant and have given me many hours of reading enjoyment.
