I thoroughly enjoying reading the Maisie Dobbs series. I am very interested in that period of time in history, especially how it relates to England. Where do you do most of your research for the books?

Jacqueline Winspear Hello Pat, I think I have been "researching" my entire life - I have always been interested in the time period from just before the Great War to the end of WW2 rationing in Britain (1954). My specific research takes me to various archives in Britain and overseas, and also to places such as the Imperial War Museum, the Transport Museum, and so on. I just soak up details, and see what comes out when I write.

I've appreciated the way that your character has grown throughout the series. There is one characteristic/gift of Maisie's that I noticed you decided to allow to quietly drop out of the storylines--communication with dead spirits. I think it was a good choice, but I'm curious--why did you have this as part of the character in early novels? What prompted the change?

I read the book and enjoyed everything about it but the ending. I know this is a stand alone book, but the ending was very abrupt. Will there be a 2nd novel to show how Kezia gets through WWI?
