Melissa Chung I don't have a reliable book light or i'm just too lame to figure out how to use them properly, so weirdest thing for me is plugging in my phone so it doesn't die and using the flashlight app to read. ha ha it is a nuisance because after so long it turns off and you have to turn it back on, but it works. I also stand in the shower and read. I will condition my hair and while its soaking I'll read a few pages. I also read while cooking and listen to audio books while I trail run.

message 52: by Jo (new)

Jo pleas exudes the spelling mesticks I am extremely dyslexic and have trouble spelling

reading at a new years party sround by drunk people yelling happy new years.

reading in class while the teacher is tocking

reading the book holding upside down becse that made the letters look right

the weirdest for me is reading at age level or even reading at all I was told I may never learn how to read or if I did I would never reach age appropet reading level I am now 28 and can read any thing I want and I will read anything I can

message 53: by Jeanny (new)

Jeanny Reading in the bath
Reading while sitting back to back with a friend

Out of the original selection the above two are the only options I've not done

Kalilah Linda wrote: "Kalilah wrote: "Honestly, who spends enough time on the toilet to read a book? Unless you have constipation issues. It's unhygienic and disgusting anyway!"

A bathroom/toilet doesn't have to have visible traces of faeces to be an unpleasant sort of place to hang out in, and I wouldn't want to put my books in there. In the same sense that someone wouldn't want to have their lunch, dinner or supper on the toilet, simply because it feels wrong. I think it does anyway.

message 56: by Krystal (new)

Krystal I'll read a book pretty much anywhere at anytime I always have one or two books on me. But I found myself reading in class when the professor put a video for the class to watch.

Algernon (Darth Anyan) All of the above is the closest option.
as for the personal touch, one of the weirdest places was on a mountain ridge in the Pyrinees, at around six in the morning, after being kicked out of the tent for being an early riser.

message 58: by Rowan (new)

Rowan MacBean Out of the ones listed, I've read: in a tree, while carsick, waiting for interviews and appointments, during power outages, under the covers with a flashlight (as a kid), in bed (my usual reading place now), smooshed on public transit, at the dinner table, on a swing, in the bath, on the toiler, over someone's shoulder, close to a plug because of a low Kindle battery, while walking, in a cemetery (also really common for me), and in unconventional sitting positions, like with your legs over the back of the chair. I'm not sure which is the weirdest, because they all feel perfectly natural.

When I was really little, though, like maybe four or five, I would take all the books off one of the shelves and then climb up into it and lie there and read.

message 59: by Brenda (last edited Aug 03, 2013 02:55PM) (new)

Brenda When I was a kid, I would go read in a big tree that had huge branches in the back yard. It was super high on top among the branches and it was tall. I escaped there. I could literally lay on the branches and even hide books in the crevices. The car garage was next to the big tree and I would move there for the sunlight if it got late. Best times as a youth reading in the big tree.

message 60: by Elayne (new)

Elayne I do / have done a lot of these - but perhaps my more unusual reading has been done outside in our garden hut, at night, with a rug on my lap and a light at Christmas - to get away from everyone and have some quiet as I was rather frazzled - yes it was cold!

message 61: by KJ (new)

KJ while cooking dinner! I do this everyday now so no longer unusual for me and i've drastically improved the multi-tasking part as i don't burn dinner as often anymore!

message 62: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Karyn The Pirate wrote: "I wish you could vote for more than one! I also read while waiting on the exam table for the doctor. I am not sure there is anywhere you can't really read."

So true, so true :)

message 63: by Alivia (new)

Alivia I always end up sitting on the chair upside down with my feet over the backrest. Also, I have a rope swing that I love to read on in the fall bouncing against the tree it's connected to.

message 64: by Subhojit (new)

Subhojit aah.. reading with a torchlight when my bedroom light is turned off!! :)

message 65: by Pamela (new)

Pamela I read everywhere: while eating, walking, on the toilet, on the bus, over someone's shoulder, in bed with a flashlight, while exercising... the list is endless.

message 66: by Megan (new)

Megan I do pretty much all other than read over the shoulder.
People think it's odd that I read while on the toilet or in the tub but I find it weird not to!

My favorite is reading while working out.

message 67: by Marit (new)

Marit Witucki I didn't read through all of them so I don't know if this is there, but I have read hanging out of a window a couple stories up.

message 68: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I don't consider it weird, but I do admit that I read on the toiler A LOT. It is sometimes the only place I can escape because I tell my fiance that I am going to the bathroom. He has no idea it doesn't actually take me that long to "do my business." ;)

message 69: by Stina (new)

Stina I have a hard time thinking of reading as weird. It's all the other stuff you have to do to get through life that's weird. But I've probably gotten the most stares from reading in church (b-o-r-i-n-g) and reading by flashlight while waiting for the 4th of July fireworks to start.

Kat Gale ︹ ︺︷ ︶ Job︸ ︹ ︺ wrote: "This is an example for the most unusual reading positions:

message 71: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Fist bump to the person who wrote in "reading in a crawl space". I am the second voter for that one. ;)

message 72: by Patriciaenola (new)

Patriciaenola I have books in the loo on a diminutive book case - amusing / humorous - nothing educational or some peeps are in there all damned day When in my best reading chair (The Hliðskjalf) I am not to be interrupted - Nevertheless I fully understand Kalilah's attitude - sounds like she is in a latrine not a toilet - Just an observation - GhandiJi of blessed memory always referred to his loo as the "Library" it was where he did his best thinking

message 73: by Patriciaenola (new)

Patriciaenola When you are sitting there it has to be said IMO - that there is one example of a person who definitely knows where he is AT and what he is DOING
In the confusion that there is in the world today - surely that can be a comforting thought

Maurizio (matemati) Reading on the toilet is _not_ unusual at all !

I did read with the head light when I had rent a furnished house without any table lamps.

message 75: by Maurizio (matemati) (last edited Aug 03, 2013 07:36AM) (new)

Maurizio (matemati) Derrick wrote: "Not sure why reading on the toilet is "weird". Some of us spend a good amount of time there :)"

Right! Especially when you live with other people and it's the only peaceful place: it was custom for me when I still were at my family's home (even when I didn't really need the toilet)

message 76: by Xyra (new)

Xyra These are awesome, but I wish the entire list had shown on the front page.
The latest odd spot for me was reading in a hot tub, then reading while laying on my stomach in a hammockr (same hour of reading).
Then my ususal, reading in bed trying to position the book and railroad lantern over a snugging cat with another cat kneading my collar bone and another getting comfy above my head on the pillow.

Julia, dude call me JJ I do that ALL the time. some are weird. I most read in bed. My most weirdest? lying on my back in best, with my leg up on a shelf, and my other leg bent.

message 78: by Shari (new)

Shari Larsen I also read while watching TV; not during the actual show, but during the commercials. Although sometimes I do read during the actual show if it's during a slow or boring part.

If I have my Kindle in my handbag when standing in a long line at the store, I will pull it out and read.

Your name was an inspiration for the verse

If it were in Arabic - it would be a Ghazal
But I do not speak it very well

message 80: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth I've done most of these too. Have to say that I picked up some great suggestions from this poll though! Don't think I'll be trying 'reading whilst swimming lengths' though, I love my kindle too much!

Z (Through The Inked Pages) Linda wrote: "Why do people think it's weird to read on the toilet? I do that ALL the time! My weirdest was probably laying on the adjusting table at the chiropractors while the machine was stretching my leg. LOL!"
I was thinking the same thing! I guess it's just so normal to us. LOL.

message 82: by Blow Pop (new)

Blow Pop I think my actual weirdest is reading whilst I get blood taken at the blood bank. Or reading at theme parks.

message 83: by Nicki (new)

Nicki It is not fair that I can only vote for one. I thought I could check all the ones I have done!

message 84: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I agree that I don't really think of any place as too weird to read at - books can be taken anywhere!

I think my most memorable uncommon reading place was in the backseat of my aunt's car as we drove three hours in the dark to her home. My cousin had just introduced me to Goosebumps, and I loved it so much that I used the headlights of the cars behind us to read all the way there. It was so disappointing when one behind us would turn off, and I'd have to wait (impatiently) for another to come.

message 85: by Lorinda (new)

Lorinda Byelich I have read while doing most of these.......although as a youngster I can remember reading in the middle of the night (when I was supposed to be sleeping) in my walk-in closet with my pillow up against the door so my mom wouldn't notice the light on. Reading till way early in the morning and then draggin' all the next day at school due to not enough sleep! :-)

Nancy (Apollo) (George) when I was 13i was told not to read a book so that made me want to read it more so I stayed up all night...ALL NIGHT and read it all.....good times...not that I still dont do it I am a fantastic actor I just pretend I fall asleep while reading and my mom puts away my book, after she is gone I get up and start reading again...:p

Molly Anya wrote: "Everything except while bathing.(One of the downsides of having an e-reader) Oh and while walking down the road. A friend of mine used to say, "When this girl dies, I bet she'd be having a book in ..."

That is why I have both real books and an ereader!

message 88: by Bunny (new)

Bunny Reading while answering the phones at a busy lawfirm and knitting at the same time. The reading is the only part that requires concentration.

message 89: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay I wish we could pick multiple here because I've read in almost all these places listed, but I find myself often (way too often) reading intently only to realize after way too long that I'm literally just standing still in the middle of a hallway or outside my front door (which I had intended to unlock and go inside about 20 min ago, but still haven't gone in because I've been just standing there reading and forgot to go in my house...) Def not normal:-)

message 90: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay That's exactly what I thought when I read that choice! Who doesn't would be a better question:-)

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

I read practically anywhere and EVERYWHERE!

message 92: by Cora (new)

Cora Tea Party Princess All of the above?

The weirdest was probably on the top of a Norman keep, lovely spot to read when the weather's nice. It's always quiet and I get to wander through the rest of the castle on my way up.

message 93: by Oleksiy (new)

Oleksiy Chapay Reading on the toilet is not weird at all. Reading with my friend is weird. Because with my friend that's impossible.

message 94: by C.C. (new)

C.C. I was hoping we could have chosen more than one because I have done most of what's in the top choices.

message 95: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Linda wrote: "Why do people think it's weird to read on the toilet? I do that ALL the time! My weirdest was probably laying on the adjusting table at the chiropractors while the machine was stretching my leg. LOL!"

You had recess in high school? I would always read at the end of class when I finished my work, and at lunch, and on the school bus. No one has beat my being tattooed yet... LOL

Jacqueline I've done so many of these they don't seem weird any more... I've only not done reading in the bath and while sitting back to back with a friend from the given options. :)

Athena Ummmm...well i've done the majority of the above... so many choices...

Katy I think it's because readers are expected to have more sense? *shrug* I know it's not particularly safe to read in the car if you're driving, since you need to pay attention. Same when walking along. If you're distracted, you make yourself a big ol' target for being mugged. Still, I've often walked out to the mailbox with my head in my book.
