Here's a short over simplification of the choices in order of connection to the theme of poetry (i.e. highly subjective) Crush and American Kundiman are the only choices that are single-poet collections; Risking Everything is an anthology and many poets will be familiar; Autobiography of Red is a poem/novel, high critical praise, not sure what to expect; Stoner is about a man turn of last century who is a lit professor and I'm guessing poet or studies poetry; Slammed takes its name from Slam poetry which one or more of the main characters participate in- I would consider this YA; Sold is also YA (but strng crossover), story of a Nepalese girl sold into prostitution, award nominated all over the place, and nominator described as written in free verse; Matched is YA, a world where the computer tells you who to marry, and the characters like poetry; Italo Calvino's sounds fascinating and challenging but I'm in the dark on the poetry connection (one of the genres the book dips into? Or just because its Calvino?); and look to the nomination discussion for Craig's 5-step connection of the Stand to poetry :-)
