Well, there's always the free reader app for computer or smartphone, but I'd ask the author if they have an ePub available. It might not be available for sale publicly, but it might exist, and they might send you a copy. And, of course, if the Kindle book doesn't have DRM applied, there's always Calibre'.

Those would all be fairly reasonable solutions, but I like to be stubborn and let people limit their audience. I have philosophical issues with KDP Select. I'm usually not dedicated enough to reading any particular book that I'll resort to any kind of work-around.

I threw mine up on Smashwords, but their file limit makes it difficult to upload each month's update. There's a lot of downsizing and cutting that is usually done. Good thing they upped their limit by 2 MB, though. May the space dragon be with you!
