I loooove the highlighting tool. Would never highlight in a book but in a e-book the possibilities are endless

I always liked to keep my books pristine. I guess I therefore don't hilite my ebooks. And it's impossible to turn the page corner over on my ereader, thank goodness.

I read alot of ebooks. So highlighting isn't a problem for me. But when I own a fresh and clean book I find it hard to mark it. Unless its a self help book

Highlighter and me are the best of pals. When I run into a quote or something needing verification it is there. As a place marker it has served me well. Randomly it marks the e-pages of my tablet to let me know there is still color left in this black and white world.

i only highlight for this website, actually. i use it to remember things i want to comment on for my cruddy 'reviews' later on.

after i've written the review, i delete the book from my ereader. i used to carry my full collection on it, but i broke one that way. it runs much smoother with 1 or 2 books on at a time instead of 13000 :x

When editing friends' novels, I highlight wonky grammar, typos, etc. Otherwise, I highlight particularly beautiful or insightful sections. Although I have yet to discover a way to aggregate/revisit my highlights on Amazon's site ...

I highlight a lot of quotes and my favorite parts and parts when I laugh. With physical books I do something similar and I mark parts that I love with sticky notes. When I'm upset I like to grab a book I love and read all of the parts I highlighted/marked.

I highlight in my second-hand books. But cannot bring myself to do it on brand new ones. I take a snapshot of parts I like instead :)

I'm older, and what comes with age is a little bit of forgetfullness. The good thing is the themes are within reach; wisdom is there. I like highlighting in a book that is chosen for book club. I don't usually scan my tablet at the book club meeting, but highlighting beforehand prepares me for the talk.

I like highlighting funny stuff, good quotes etc, anything that i think i'll want to have easy acess to, mainly to show my friends or just to have a laugh

When reviewing books, I find it helpful to mark where something bothered me, so I can write about it. I bookmark the page, and highlight the key words.

I never do it for eBooks. But for hard copies, yes, sometimes! :)

I used to highlight every once in a while but it's way too dificult to find what I've highlighted, and it doesnt let me know what books I have highlighted or left notes on. If I cant easliy see what books have been noted from the shelf view then it doesn't help me at all.

I don't highlight, but, when I read in my laptop, I like to make a screenshot when there's an escene I love.

It's not weird, I like pages clean, too.

Sometimes I highlight if it really speaks to me. Never in a real book though.

I only highlight and add comments when I am writing a review for the eBook I am reading on my iPad, making it easier to go back to my notes. With regards to physical books, I don't highlight or write on the margins because I don't want to ruin the pages but I would instead write down my notes or comments in a legal pad or notebook. Textbooks are a different matter though. With textbooks, I highlight a lot using only Pink colored highlighters and cut up pieces of masking tape as makeshift page tabs and I write all over the margins since there's really no such thing as Ctrl+F on a physical textbook. LOL!

The thing is...I am older than dirt, so my old brain is like old dirt that only retains water, women, and wine.Facts are not retained. So I highlight to remember, then I write down what I highlighted. Then I have to remember what I wrote down, and where I put it.

So, yes I highlight. I tried to here but I couldn't get the html right this early in the morning.

It's funny, for me highlighting is like bookmarking a webpage. It's meant to be something to come back to, but in practice it's just something I forget.

Whereas ebooks are loath to put a summary within the first couple of pages (I recently found ONE that did so), if I highlight pertinent sections of the story line and/or characters names it makes it much easier to pick up again and find out if this is the one with X and where X happens. Publishers could do worse than put a summary (that used to be on the back cover) somewhere near the start of the ebook.

Difficult to highlight on the Kindle paperwhite. My only complaint about the Kindle!

I use a highlighter that doesn't bleed. Sometimes I use a Micron pen ( archival ink)and just make little stars next to the sentence. I also highlight on my Kindle, which I read from most often. I highlight in my Bible as well; it is a Journaling Bible...ESV and I use a red Micron pen.

Wow, a lot of Goodreads readers are really weighing in on this highlight thing. Okay, so in Jr. College I received the freedom to highlight my books (I bought them heaven knows). But once I started buying books for a used bookstore it was over. We did not accept highlighting, the book went back into the box. No exceptions. I guess being a cop makes you always a cop. But the Nexus 7 changed that. It's like going through 12-step. New technology makes us a little mad with power.

Interesting that the majority do not highlight :/

Makes you think of this is a disengagement in the reading.. for the sake of fast reading.. or is't for something else?

I would NEVER highlight in either an ebook or a regular book. It distracts from the flow of the story.

Like a maniac if it's non fiction. Only for quotes I love or references to something I want to look up with fiction.

I'm doing it myself if reading an ebook , an easy no fuss way to really remember special things.

i highlight my bible which is also an enjoyment book as well as inspiring i also higlight some sasy comments and some sarcastic line..

I think we can link the concept of reading to literacy process, in a broader understanding of the acquisition of skills in reading and writing and especially the social practice these skills capabilities. Thus, reading inserts us into a wider world of knowledge and meanings, including enabling us to decipher it; hence the notion of reading so widespread in the world. so is essential, facilitate people's access to books in order to get used to reading - regardless of anything, including of the means.

I can't ever, ever bring myself to highlight anything in an actual book. So having the option on my Kindle is great. Especially since it compiles my favorite quotes for me to look up again later. I'll only highlight on it. :)
