I read mostly non-fiction on my Kindle and am a heavy highlighter. Once a month or so, I export my highlight file from the Kindle to my PC, extract each book's highlights, and paste them into a centralized TiddlyWiki file--thus giving me one place I can search, print and review all of my "Cliff's Notes" for each book. This single TiddlyWiki file can also be loaded onto my iPod Touch for maximum travel flexibility.

I always forget about highlighting until after I have finished reading the book and wished I could go back to a certain area. Not really sure how to highlight anyway lol.

I highlight my neighbors cats tails while they're sleeping. Because fuck you, that's why. I do what I want

Never highlighted before in my relaxation reading but find that I do now with my Kindle or Nook. I like being able to connect online with other readers and discuss certain parts of a book.

I read for fun, so i highlight things that are interesting or funny that I read in my books. Then I can go to my Clippings and look at them again.

It depends on the book, but for the most part I don't highlight. Sometimes, if I am reading something for school, I'll write it on the side instead of on the book so I don't have to make it look messy, haha.

while some of my highlights are great sayings or thoughts on life most of mine are things I found silly because I have the sense of humor of a five year old. Older books tend to be written in a style where they don't see the silliness. I once highlighted an entire section from the voyage of the dawn treader because they said poop so many times... yes I know its a boat term.. but I still giggled a lot

I highlight if I am studying something, but I really don't do too much of that. My nook is mostly for pleasure reading so I don't highlight. However, I do bookmark certain places so I can reread later.

I love quotes so I guess you could say "My Clippings" is my favorite book on my kindle. So of course I love to highlight!

I highlight for a number of reasons:
      I highlight for a number of reasons:1. In non-fiction, to capture points that I don't want to forget;
2. In fiction, to A. capture quotes I especially loved and/or B. record grammatical or other errors, that may impact my review of the book.

You're Absolutely RIGHT!
I never thought to highlight. If a quote sticks in my head then I know it's good, if not, I enjoyed reading it and moved on

I don't own an e-reader, nor will I ever want to. I prefer going the old school way by reading from traditional print books! It's the best way, in my opinion. Anyways, since technically a person who does not own an e-reader can still highlight stuff in a book, I can answer the question. Well, do I? Sometimes, but not with a writing utensil of any sort, so I can keep the book in good condition. If I want to mark something significant for whatever the reason may be, I would use a sticky note.

i ALWAYS highlight quotes or passages i like. so after reading the book i share them on my GR feed, or sometimes i share them while updating my progress on the book itself.

Before there were highlighters, there were pencils. I always took little notes in my books, good quotes, new words, profound sentences, etc.

As a teacher, I originally forbid children to write in books, now I teach them that if they own it, they can use it as a resource. With the very young students I have them write their notes on post-its and place them on the page. NO SCRIBBLE SCRABBLE! Slight doodling is okay.

I highlight my scriptures or text books. I don't highlight anything else, because I have too much respect for books to mark them up, even in an ereader. It feels too much like graffiti and annoys me greatly.

I concur.
I don't write in or highlight books- printed or electronic. I sometimes book mark pages and make a note on an index card or sticky note.

I do both, using highlight and electronic bookmark because my intuitive way of finding references in a paper edition does not help me find something in an ebook. I am frustrated by ebooks that only show chapter page numbers and percentage of the whole book read rather than cumulative page numbers. If I decide that this is a book I will review, then I use Postit notes.

I highlight--a lot! It is especially helpful for putting my thoughts together when I review. Other times it just helps to place the words on file in my mind. . . .

I do highlight sometimes, but I also hate reading and seeing "50 people highlighted this" because then I expect the quote to be awesome and meaningful or funny and it's usually not. Let down!

If there is a passage that is absolutely ridiculous, or hilarious and I want to show it to someone, I love to highlight on my kindle; then I can share it on facebook............

I can never bring myself to highlight a paper book (old school), but I highlight on Kindle like crazy. It's lovely to be able to scroll through the passages that struck me while I read.

I highlight words that are different and look up the full description of it. I also highlight all misspelled words.
