Kimberly No, I love Harry. When I am tired and drained the books or the dvd's pick me up.. It's a new classic

message 2: by K (new)

K i LOVE harry potter SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but twilight is really good too and it is getting old but i dont care cause it still rocks :)

message 3: by Margaret (new)

Margaret I think the public can identify with the character of Harry Potter. This makes him and all that includes him a "new classic" as Kimberly said. He will never go out of style.

message 4: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Twilight is fun, but content-wise, it's not . . . good? The Harry Potter series has only been done for a year, and it's already a classic among the likes of Chronicles of Narnia, Huckleberry Finn, and Lord of the Rings. They're more than adventure books, they're epically brilliant story-telling.

And statistically speaking, they're globally beloved and critically acclaimed. They're already in the anals of history, and will remain so.

message 5: by Kendal (new)

Kendal Harry has never gotten old for me! Whenever I'm just having a rough time I go and read the books or watch the DVDs--like Kimberly said. It's definitely a classic and I think that Harry really will live forever. Twilight, which I'm a fan of, is already getting old for me. But really I don't think they should be compared.

message 6: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I do think Harry Potter is getting "old", but only in the way that happens to anything that is really popular. It will only stay popular for a little while, and especially since all 7 books are out, now it will move from the front of peoples' minds to the treasured back part of our minds. We will always love it and be fans, but something new always comes along. Twilight, too, will get old, and so will the next big thing. It happened to Lord of the Rings in the 70's - big fans of the books, and certain people I know still have vintage "Save Frodo" pins. It got big again when they made the movies but now... faded again. Once all the Harry Potter movies are made and released it will really settle down. (except for that theme park) ;)

message 7: by Madi (new)

Madi twilight sucks, harry potter will never get old

message 8: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore I think Harry Potter will be around for a long time. However, I do feel a bit sorry for the people who will never know the 2 and 3 year longings for the release of the next book!

message 9: by Alien (new)

Alien Citizen Harry Potter is a classic, if that means old to some then so be it...but it changed the landscape and the possibilities for children's literature so, in some ways, there is no Twilight without Harry Potter. That people were getting this excited about the Twilight series of books is partly a product of the Harry Potter phenomenon which made it okay to get wildly excited about books and talk about them with your friends in the same way we might previously have talked about movies, Hollywood celebrities, pop musicians, etc. In no way does this really speak to the quality of Twilight. In fact, in my opinion, Twilight is no more than what Harry Potter sneezes. :-P Really though, I am disappointed at the author, Stephanie Myers, for not imagining a female protagonist who was a bit more proactive and who did not define herself primarily through her relationship with a boy.

Leslie I don't know . . . I took the poll to mean 'growing old' as in eventual death. Lord of the Rings never died, and they didn't need the films to resurrect them, either. They have a fledgling life as a classic, and so will Harry Potter. After continuous rereads, I don't expect the books to hold the same draw they once had for fans . . . I still read them every summer, but that's me. I can't pretend Sorcerer's Stone still has me at the edge of my seat, either. Just because they aren't selling the way they once had when they originally came out doesn't mean they'll be forgotten. I intend to read these books to my children in the hope that they might love them as much as I did and still do. And maybe they'll continue to be passed down from there. Harry Potter is immortal, and that's that.

You're awesome.

message 12: by Arshia (new)

Arshia Choudhrie Harry Potter is definitely getting old. People need to make way for new authors like Stephenie Meyer and Christopher Paolini.

message 13: by tabitha (new)

tabitha farrar I love Harry Potter but now I love Twilight so much that I have not read Harry Potter in almost a year.

message 14: by Gail (new)

Gail Harry Potter will be a classic with morality lessons, relations to myths, incredible word usage and appeal to all ages and both genders. Harry is well-known through out the world and will continue as it is translated into many languages. Twilight is ok, but mostly appeals to teenage girls- it's like comparing apples and oranges.

message 15: by Raleigh (new)

Raleigh Harry will never get old! Not only is it an amazing piece of literature (which beats Twilight ANY day), there's always so much more to learn. There is just so much back story and so many characters, not to mention that the movies and fanfiction also help to keep it alive.
Harry Potter all the way!

yeah! they r historic!

message 21: by Rocky (new)

Rocky I think Harry Potter (the actor in the movie) is looking way older than his actual age.

Now he looks like a 30 years old nerd with a moustache (oh yes, and his hobo-ish hair too). He seems to be growing way faster than the character in the movie, making him more and more unsuitable for the character over time. The only reason he got role, was because he was lucky and he kinda followed the describions in the book. I mean seriously... WHAT!? THAT GUY CAN ACT?

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Harry Potter will always live forever in me and my friend Shae. No matter how popular Twilight gets.
