Man's Fate by Andre Malraux Modern Library 1934, it was a required reading in at least 2 literature classes and I managed to negotiate another book with the teachers.

Wow, your teachers were really nice or else you were really persuasive!

Lol! Yes, I think they were really nice but since they knew how much I loved reading, they also trusted me. I never did read that book, I gave my copy away after So many failed attempts. Maybe one day...?

Are you trying to say that you want to nominate this one? Hehe!

LOL! No no no! This one was a painful experience, the beginning at least, and I remember much violence (could be my perception at the time though) I wouldn't want to put anyone through that! I might try it again one day to see if a few decades makes a difference but I won't be responsible for putting anyone else through it... Do I sound traumatized?!! LOL
Oliver Twist. I don't know why, since it's a pretty good book, but I always get interrupted in the middle of reading it and lose momentum.
I still have painful memories of trying to read A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man in high school. I could never get past the first few pages.
"The Magic Mountain" a German classic by Thomas Mann. Love it in theory but find it impossible to get past page 300. Even tried the audio book version with identical results.
I find it amazing how it seems to be one book that gets everybody at one point or another. Plus, it always seems to be in one particular spot-amazing or frustrating depends on how you look at it!

Great, I happen to have that one on my ebook already. Thanks for the tip.

Ha, maybe you can try it again for September if it wins the group read.
