Hey everyone, here's the updated poll. I wanted to streamline it and that way we can get more accurate results for which books get the most votes so no write-in option this time.

Obviously because of the poll function you can only vote for one book but we will be reading two of them so if you want to show your preference for the second one feel free to leave a comment below!

I voted for The Ambrose Deception

2nd pick The Golden Compass - there is a prequel out so I wouldn't mind reading that then the golden compass and the rest of the series. The prequel is on my list to read next after I finish my two current reads.

Edit there are 2 prequels wows

Also so happy Artemis Fowl made the list! One of my favorite series.

message 3: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen I voted for The Ambrose Deception as well! I meant to put books into the poll because I thought it was like the other themed polls that we had but I’m fine with these selections. I would also vote for The Golden Compass because I am intrigued by that series.

Yeah I had another poll previously where people could write in options and then I took some of those and made this poll. I thought it could be fun to shake things up and do something different by having everyone reading the same books rather than having the big list like we do for readathons. Glad to hear you are fine with these options though, I’m fine with them all too so I’m not too fussed with what wins. I think it’s a good variety here, hopefully others feel the same!

Audrey I've read Gregor the Overlander. It was okay; not too exciting for me.

I voted for What About Will. The Ambrose Deception or Story Thieves would be my second vote. Actually I’d be fine with reading any of them except Daughter of the Deep. Nothing against Rick Riordan just the concept doesn’t appeal to me and it seems quite long. I’ve read Artemis Fowl before but it’s been like 10 years now so I wouldn’t mind rereading it.

Yeah I’ve heard of the prequel for The Golden Compass I think it’s called The Book of Dust or something. I saw it in the library last year but I’m not sure about the other one you mention.
Have you watched the His Dark Materials show? It’s so good! The 3rd and final season comes out at the end of this year I think! It made me want to read the book but I don’t do well with fantasy so I tried the graphic novel The Golden Compass Graphic Novel, Volume 1 instead which was really awful.

I had someone very enthusiastically recommend it to me. I haven’t talked to him in years now but I always remember his recommendation when thinking of mg books to read because he was so fervent about it and that’s why you’ll probably notice I put it on every series readathon poll😂 it never wins though so I’ve never gotten around to reading it.

message 8: by Georgann (new)

Georgann I voted for the Ambrose Deception in part b/c I live in a Chicago suburb and love reading books set in Chicago. I just finished one: Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie Scritch Scratch

message 9: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I still haven't read Artemis Fowl and probably should some time.

message 10: by Anita (new)

Anita I'd read Riordan's book, Daughter of the Deep. It's on my TBR, and I'd need to put in for it at my library. But I've read the others, except Gregor and Ambrose (which I'd also be willing to read).

My library has Gregor, I put Daughter on hold (7 people ahead of me), and Ambrose my library only has as an ebook, which means if it's through Hoopla I'm tied to the computer to read it, or if I can get it through OverDrive and my Kindle, that might work. I'll have to investigate it, either way.

Whatever you choose, if it's one of those three, I'm down for it!

Valid reason👏🏻 I rarely consider setting as a factor for reading stuff but every now and then I read a book with an interesting enough setting which makes me consider it more. Like recently I read The Fall which is set in Australia and it really made me think man I don’t read enough Australian books!

It’s one of those books I read as a kid so I can’t even say if it’s any good or not my views were way different back then. But you should definitely give it a try if you get the time! It’s a long series to commit to but each book is unique enough that I think it’s worth it.

I think they changed the name first 2 on this list https://www.goodreads.com/series/4442...

I havent seen the show, I kind of want to, but dont have HBO max or whatever streamimg service its on. Good to know to avoid the graphic novel.
The Playstation games graphics look horrible now I started playing it again around Christmas last year perfect time for it. Not going to spoil the book by mentioning why I like the game.

It seems the thing I’m talking about is a whole new prequel series not just a prequel book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... which I didn’t know about but seems pretty cool!
At this point I have no idea if we had the same prequels in mind because there are so many!

14 books. Its a lot. I read it last year but Im planning on re reading them sometime in the future, when Ive forgotten the details.

Fans who want the movie to be exactly like the book hated the movie, I think of the movie as being more inspired by the book and I enjoyed the movie. To each their own. Over and out.

message 18: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I have a signed copy of Story Thieves (the author did an event with the author of Blackthorn Key a few years ago, which was a lot of fun), so I'm eager to have an excuse to fit it in my massive TBR.

I don’t know if you are thinking about it but maybe we can have just a middle grade themed readathon just for fun because I really need to read some more middle grade. Also I would love to read Story Thieves and it seems to be winning! Although I would have to put a hold on it though.

You can put it in spoiler tags if you like. The show is a pretty accurate adaptation so it's likely that whatever it is I already know about. Is it the ending? The thing with Roger?

This is a good idea! Well we were supposed to do the genre challenge event this month which was going to be MG only but I put it off till next month because I was too lazy to organise it and I thought people might want a break from the big events. Now when we do the genre challenge in July I'll make it all age categories allowed not just MG because the team reading challenge in August is MG only and that way we get a variety.

I can't tell which 2 books are going to win it's way too close between The Ambrose Deception, Daughter of the Deep, What About Will and Story Thieves. Thankfully I'm fine with all 4 of those so whatever wins I'll be looking forward to reading it!

Maybe you’re typing the tags out wrong? It should be like: (spoiler) and end with (/spoiler) but replace the brackets with <>
Hopefully it should work! Maybe give it a try and let me know, if there’s some other reason I can try and help you figure it out.

It might not show for you but it could show for other people. But then again I’m not sure on that until you try it but if you do then we could see.
Sometimes when I post comments on the app I can’t see my full comment but when I log in to the desktop website the full comment is there. It’s weird!

Spoiler tags work on the app in the sense that you can write them out and send them in a message but they don’t work in the sense that they can’t be read on the app. For me the goodreads app just removes anything in a spoiler tag and replaces it with a [spoilers removed] message or yeah sometimes they just show the spoiler even though it should be hidden in the tag.

Goodreads has a lot of issues for sure but the desktop website is the most reliable of the bunch; it hides the spoilers appropriately and allows you to open and close the spoiler tag to see what’s hidden. The goodreads app should really get into doing that but I think it requires more coding than they currently can be bothered to do.

That’s so strange! Sometimes goodreads really sucks huh. I guess that means you can never discuss spoilers without either hinting or majorly forewarning. What a pain for you!
