The Rules on Recommending:
- You can only recommend a book/graphic novel you have read in 2021!

- Please make sure the book you recommend is the one you loved/enjoyed/thought was the best of all the books you read in 2021.
- Preferably only recommend 1 book but if you can't choose then recommend 3 and I will randomly pick 1 from the 3 to add to the list.
- The book you recommend can be MG, YA, Adult or New Adult and can be any genre but please make sure the book is appropriate.
- The book can be a graphic novel or manga.
- The book must be in English or translated to English books are also allowed.
- The book must be more than 100 pages long.
- The book cannot be from the middle of a series if it's not possible to read the book outside of the series and still understand it.

Yeah I'm just following what I did with the Best Books of 2020 readathon because it seemed to work well, but just ONE book is a really hard choice. I haven't even considered what mine would be yet. I read way more this year than I did last year so it might be a harder choice, I shall have to peruse my shelves first!

AurorainBookland Kiki's Delivery Service
(魔女の宅急便 / Kiki's Delivery Service #1)
by Eiko Kadono, Emily Balistrieri (Translator) 139 pages
I gave it five stars

@Aurora ooh awesome! I've been wanting to watch the movie for that so it'll be interesting to read the manga first! I'll add it to the poll above for you😊

Sarah Alone by Megan E. Freeman
404 pages
Gave it 5 stars :)

Oh I've seen that book! I think it's on my TBR so this should be a good opportunity to read it. I've added it above!

Its a novel that inspired the movie actually. It was just published in english this year. Both the novel and movie are very cute!

message 8: by finn (new)

finn I would like to recommend Walk Two Moons!

This was so hard to choose! 2021 was a great reading year for me, so I had lots of favorites. I decided to go with this one because it’s not nearly as popular as a lot of the other books I liked, and I thought it would be best to recommend something that others might not have heard of before. It was a five star read for me, and I almost never give middle grade books 5 stars.

message 9: by Audrey (new)

Audrey My favorites are mostly from the middle of a series or nonfiction, so I'll have to see what fits best.

message 10: by Keya (new)

Keya Starfish by Lisa Fipps

You can recommend nonfiction if you to!

If so, I'll probably not go with anything political just to keep neutral.

message 13: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
Yeah Audrey that’s probably a safer bet but ultimately it’s up to you!

message 14: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I added The Explorer's Code by Allison K. Hymas . It is a middle grade mystery with clues, codes, and hidden rooms. The characters are well developed and the mystery plot is interwoven with a story about family relationships. Five star read for me in 2021.

message 16: by Sameeksha (new)

Sameeksha my fav book of 2021... there is not confusion, it is one and only... The Devil and the Dark Water

message 17: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Lynn that sounds like exactly my kind of book! I always love your recommendations, I think the book I'll end up adding for this readathon will be one of your recs!

@Grace I feel you, I have quite a lot of 5 star ratings this year but looking at them I don't feel like all of them really deserved those 5 stars. I have a lotttt of 4 star ratings from this year too! I shall add your recommendation above!

@Haniya I was going to choose one for you out of the 3 but it looks like you already have done so so that's great!

@Keya @Sameeksha I shall add them to our poll above!

message 18: by Serena ♡ (new)

Serena ♡ Capsule

such a good underrated book! It’s really a book you can’t read in more than two sittings. I’ve declared it impossible. It’s too fast paced (and too much fun).

message 19: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Eli it’s giving me Nerve vibes but with more mystery. Hopefully I end up reading it next month! I’ll add it above👏🏻

Sounds interesting and the library has a copy so maybe I will read it sometime next year.

Glad you liked it @Audrey

message 23: by Critter (new)

Critter My favorite book I read this year was Worst Case Collin by Rebecca Caprara, which is a novel in verse

message 24: by Andrea (last edited Dec 20, 2021 06:19PM) (new)

Andrea The Key to Extraordinary by Natalie Lloyd I listened to The Key to Extraordinary by Natalie Lloyd for the August Readathon/group competition and I loved it. The narrator made the story even better so I highly recommend the audiobook.

I have several other favorites this year by Rhys Bowen, Julie Mulhern and W.J May. Those books are part of a series. You would miss out if you didn’t start with the first book.

I’m too busy working on my family tree to participate in the January 2022 readathon so I hope everyone has fun.

message 25: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Critter Worst Case Colin looks so good! I think it’ll be my first read for the challenge and maybe the whole year too!

@Andrea it’s a shame you won’t have time to participate in the challenge next month but it’s a busy time for everyone so I get it! Thanks for adding your best book of the year all the same😊

message 26: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I haven't finished reading for the year yet, but I'll choose when I'm done.

message 27: by Keya (new)

Keya The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant

message 28: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Audrey same! I’ve read more books/comics this year than I ever have before yet I still haven’t got a definitive best of the year so I’m going to wait a few more days to decide

@Keya I’ll add it above!

message 29: by Georgann (new)

Georgann I found so many good recommendations here, so now my TBR had grown yet again! Since @Haniya already chose one of my two favorites, may I add her unchosen one, City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake, #1) by Victoria Schwab City of Ghosts?

message 30: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Georgann absolutely you can! I'll add it above for you! I think this means I'll finally get round to reading that book😂 Yep I'm making it my goal now for this readathon👏🏻

Also I love that this readathon can grow your TBR and then this challenge: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... can shrink your TBR and both of the events are happening in January so people's TBRs are going to be fluctuating!

message 31: by Spens (new)

Spens (Sphynx Reads) My favorite this year was The Marvels!!

message 32: by EdenB15 (new)

EdenB15 I loved the yearbook by Holly bourne

message 33: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen I put Save the Date by Morgan Matson as my other favorites of the year has already been suggested through the other polls! Very excited for this one!

you also like city of ghosts i love it too not as much as keeper of the lost cities and amaari and the night brothers but its an amazing series

message 35: by Audrey (new)

Audrey My favorite books that were not part of a series were
Humble Pi: A Comedy of Maths Errors (non-fiction)
The Crown Tower re-read -- the start of a series but also a standalone

runner-up: Spinning Silver -- also a re-read

message 36: by Kadi (new)
